Easy Riders was formed in Calcutta in 1993-94 with the sole intention of playing their own music. The band idolised Indian rock pioneers like High and D for Brother from Calcutta and Great Society from Shillong. The Riders played their first show at Xavotsav, the St Xavier’s Calcutta college fest, in 1995, winning the band competition. What followed was a short, roller-coaster and familiar journey with winning competitions such as IIT and IIM Joka, playing the college-rock circuit — opening for acts like Parikrama, Krosswindz and LRB — being covered by local newspapers and eventually going their own separate ways, disillusioned. Cut to the present, and they find themselves back where it all began, chasing that impossible dream again.
