Weekend ride and overnight camp out at Hill End.
Meeting Point: Hawkesbury Visitors Information Centre, 328 Hawkesbury Valley Way, Richmond.
Departing 9.00 am sharp.
We'll head over the Blue Mountains via The Bells Line of Road to Lithgow for a brunch stop at the Lithgow Tin Shed Cafe, arriving about 10.30 am.
Then it will be a fuel stop at Kelso Ampol (because there's no fuel at Hill End. The nearest fuel is Wattle Flat but its single pump will be overwhelmed by a group).
From Kelso, it's 80km out to Hill End via Sofala.
Hill End is a gold mining ghost town. It had a population of 8,000 in 1872, now it's 80. There's a handful of historic buildings standing in open fields where hundreds of buildings have decayed away.
We'll be camping at the village campground in easy walking distance from the hotel and general store/cafe, where we will dine, and drink.
We'll have lunch in Hill End, then play tourist for the afternoon and ride some of the amazing roads around town.
