The seizure of the Kabacan junction in Central Mindanao was a strategic victory for the Allied Forces as it separated the main body of the Japanese 30th and 100th Division. The 24th Division’s 34th Infantry, spearheaded by the 24th Reconnaissance, made a rapid advance to the east at Route 1. Following the 19th Infantry, the 34th Infantry’s movement was slowed down by destroyed bridges and sporadic enemy delaying actions. Despite these delays, the Allied Forces travelled for 40 miles in 4 days reaching the outskirts of Digos on the afternoon of 27 April 1945. Upon the arrival of the Allied troops, the war evacuees who had settled in Santa Cruz and nearby villages flocked to Digos and arrived safely back to their homes after the liberation.
