The emancipation of Natonin, Mountain Province was a crucial victory for the Blackburn Co, 11th Infantry Regiment, USAFIP NL in the Cordillera Region since Natonin served as the passageway for the retreating Mikami and Marauka Japanese Forces heading towards Mayaoyao, Ifugao. The liberation forces, led by the 3rd Battalion, passed through Mountain Province via motor march from Solana and Enrile in Cagayan and exited via Nueva Vizcaya within a month.
The trip heading to Natonin, Mountain Province was no easy task for the battalion. Both the 3rd Battalion’s “K” Company and the rest of the battalion faced the Japanese Forces in Natonin peripheries and Saliok Bowl. The major conflict arose on 22 July at 1000H as the low-flying C-47 and the parachutes supplying food and clothing were fired at by the enemies causing fire and thunderous noise around the Saliok encirclement.
