Landing in Negros Island / Negros Occidental

The landings in Negros was led by the 185th RCT, 40th Division under the 8th US Army. Elements of the 185th made landings in the area of Pulupandan without preliminary naval bombardment as no major Japanese movement opposed the landings. The Japanese commander Lt Gen Takeshi Kono commanded approximately 13,500 men in Northern Negros. Most of the Japanese units came from the 102nd Division, others came from smaller naval units stationed in the island. Units of the 4th Air Army, 2nd Air Division are also stationed in the island, providing a vast arsenal of antiaircraft weapons to Kono’s forces. Before the landings, Japanese forces begun to move inland to the mountains of Northern Negros to make their last stand against the Allied forces.
