Legaspi, Albay, specifically the Legaspi Port, was a strategic location in the Bicol peninsula which proved to be extremely useful in the Allied force’s goal of securing the Visayan passages. Found in the south easternmost tip of Luzon, Legaspi not only offers the best landing beaches and port facilities in the region, but it also gives easy access to routes leading towards Sorsogon and the rest of the region. Capturing the area mean they can block Japanese movements into the Sorsogon Peninsulas where the enemies will try to control the San Bernardino Strait.
On April 1, 1945, the 158th Regimental Combat Team of the U.S. Army, under the command of Brigadier General Hanford Macnider, specifically Task Group 78. 4, led by Captain Homer F.
