The MINKE Project, “Metrology for Integrated Marine Management and Knowledge-Transfer Network” (MINKE) is a Horizon 2020-funded initiative, that focuses on the design of an innovative ‘quality of oceanographic data’ framework through the Essential Ocean Variables (EOVs) identification and the novel multidimensional data quality approach concerning the accuracy and completeness concept. The experiences and dialogues of 16 key European marine metrology research infrastructures within the (MINKE) Project promote the MINKE’s statement reaching out from these dialogues to commit the research infrastructures, industries and scientific community and stakeholder in the improvement of the global ocean observing system using an integrated marine management and knowledge-transfer networks.

The “Mediterranean Sea Ship-based Hydrographic Investigations Program” (Med-SHIP) is a regional initiative designed to monitor physical and biogeochemical changes within the Mediterranean Sea. Med-SHIP is based on repeated full-depth hydrographic cruises, adhering to the standards of the international program GO-SHIP (Global Ocean Ship-based Hydrographic Investigations Program), ensuring high-quality and high-resolution data collection, tailored to the specific observational spatiotemporal requirements of the Mediterranean Sea. Med-SHIP provides crucial data of physical, chemical, and biological variables throughout the water column, complementing other observing systems like Argo floats, gliders, and moorings. Additionally, Med-SHIP supports the deployment and calibration of autonomous instruments and offers training and capacity-building opportunities for scientists from Mediterranean countries.

The objectives of the session are:

• To dialogue about identifying common priorities and challenges between the different players of the ocean observation community in terms of data.
• To promote the multidimensional data quality approach concerning the accuracy and completeness concepts.
• To foster cooperation between research infrastructures, scientific communities, industries and other stakeholders.
• To showcase the achievements of Med-SHIP as a key component of the Mediterranean Sea’s sustained hydrography, highlighting it as a reference dataset for studying long-term changes in the Mediterranean Sea, while addressing its unique biogeochemical particularities.
