New solutions for nucleic acid detection using 1-step RT-qPCR

Description: This workshop will discuss new methods for detecting nucleic acids using a process called 1-step RT-qPCR.

RT-qPCR, or Reverse Transcription quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction, is a technique used to amplify and simultaneously quantify a specific DNA target. It's a widely used method because of its sensitivity, specificity, and speed.

In a 1-step RT-qPCR, the reverse transcription (conversion of RNA to DNA) and amplification (making many copies of the DNA) occur in the same tube or well. This can reduce potential pipetting errors and contamination, making the process more efficient and reliable.

Description: The Applied Biosystems™ Taqman ™ array cards offer a configurable solution to the molecular detection of pathogens from respiratory samples. This talk will describe the research study which assessed the performance of a Taqman array card-based customized syndromic panel for detection of respiratory pathogens affecting patients with pneumonia in intensive care, its strengths and potential pitfalls, and how utility of such a panel could be maximized during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
