The artists Stefan Burger (*1977) and Matthias Gabi (*1981) provide an insight into their works, which are shown as part of the exhibition The Collection. Following the discussion in the exhibition room, the discussions about the two artists' approaches and sources of inspiration will continue in the photo library.
Burger's ongoing series Picture Book brings together various previously unpublished material in six volumes: archive and research material, correspondence, documents and photographs. The artist's often research-based works revolve around critical questions such as the truth function of the photographic image. For his book printing work group, Gabi selects prototypical images of objects or ideas that represent all representations of this one thing. He looks for the image of a hand from images of hands, and the image of a mushroom cloud from images of mushroom clouds and chooses it as that.
