Lighthouse Collaborative Summary: The Lighthouse Collaborative (LC) is a cross-district instructional improvement initiative designed to support the Chancellor’s Four Pillars, with an emphasis on expanding our ability to “scale, sustain and restore what works” through collaborative inquiry and sharing of promising practices. All Lighthouse Collaborative schools open their doors to a citywide audience to share promising practices within an instructional focus area.

Visit Summary: P.S. Q811 is a District 75 K-12 school located in Queens for students with disabilities.

At this Lighthouse Collaborative visit, participants will:

  • Learn how the school creates challenging opportunities that enable all students to maximize their independence and become participating, fulfilled members of a multicultural society.
  • Observe students in programs that integrate academics, technology, related and support services, occupational training, recreational/leisure activities, career education, and community-based instruction.
  • Gain strategies to embed opportunities for student voice and ownership of learning into all learning experiences through the 811Q Strive for 5 instructional framework.

At the end of the day, visitors will have the opportunity to plan how these practices can be incorporated into their own work.
