Climate: an Election Issue

Ames | Updated: March 28, 2024 09:15 PM
Climate: an Election Issue

Location: Ames Public Library - Brown Auditorium

Address: 515 Douglas Ave, Ames, IA 50010

Date: 13 Apr

We’re a group of concerned citizens who are educating our communities about climate solutions, and encouraging our elected officials to pass strong climate laws. We believe that the only way to tackle climate change is together. Are you worried about how fast our climate is warming, and ready to do something about it? CCL offers training, for free!

Attend a Climate Advocacy Training, led by Madeleine Para of Citizens' Climate Lobby, from 9:00 - 11:30. Cornelia Mutel, CCL Iowa City, will be present to sign her book Tending Iowa’s Land: Pathways to a Sustainable Future; copies will be available for purchase. The Iowa Citizens' Climate statewide meeting, open to all, will follow from 11:30 - 4 pm (includes lunch). There will be statements by the Iowa U.S. House candidates in which they will share their vision for climate solutions that will reduce emissions by 50% by 2030. We will strategize, and learn how to address these concerns with our candidates and communities when we see them in person. Last but not least, a youth forum will be led by James Bradford III, CCL Campus Fellow.

Where: Ames Public Library - Brown Auditorium, 515 Douglas Avenue. Metered parking is available in a lot to the north, across 6th St. or free on the street north of the lot.
When: Saturday, April 13, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Registration 8:30-9 AM. Some portions may be hybrid or recorded.)

There is no fee to attend, although donations will be accepted. A build your own sandwich lunch buffet is included.

Citizens' Climate Lobby/Education is a non-partisan nonprofit with over 221,000 volunteer supporters in the U.S., including nearly 1700 in nine chapters in Iowa. CCL/CCE equips volunteers to learn, talk about and lobby for effective climate solutions. Madeline Para, a former teacher, has been an active member for over ten years, and lives in Madison, WI.

What we do:

  • Start productive conversations about climate solutions in our community
  • Build support for climate action with community leaders
  • Meet with our members of Congress to advocate for effective climate solutions

Join our Climate Advocate Workshop to:

  • Learn about our local group and our approach to climate advocacy
  • Meet with other concerned neighbors and friends
  • Hear how to join in and find your role in our local group

Attendance is not a commitment to join!

This workshop is hosted by the Iowa Fourth District CCL chapter. We encourage anyone wanting effective climate solutions to attend.

About Citizens’ Climate Lobby

Our group is a local chapter of Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL), a volunteer-driven grassroots climate organization with more than 220,000 climate advocates across the United States. CCL volunteers work locally to educate and build support for climate action, and with their members of Congress to get meaningful climate solutions passed. CCL’s work is nonpartisan, bringing people from across the political spectrum together to work towards solutions.

Together, we're turning the tide on climate change and ensuring that our planet's future outshines its past.
