"Meet the Artist" with Jade Doskow

Kingston | Updated: March 28, 2024 06:40 PM

Location: The Center for Photography at Woodstock

Address: 474 Broadway, Kingston, NY 12401

Date: 25 Apr

On Thursday, April 25, we welcome Jade Doskow to “Meet the Artist” night at CPW. Doskow will present her ongoing work as the Freshkills Photographer-in-Residence. She will discuss the ways in which the work describes the complications of the unique New York City site and how her photographs relate to the greater history of landscape and place-based photography. This event will be live-streamed on CPW’s YouTube Page at 6 pm.

Join us every Thursday evening at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served. “Meet the Artist” is made possible by a generous grant from the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation.

New York-based architectural and landscape photographer Jade Doskow is known for her rigorously composed and eerily poetic images that examine the intersection of people, architecture, nature, and time. Doskow is best-known for her work Freshkills, Lost Utopias and Red Hook. The monograph of the Lost Utopias series was published in 2017 by Black Dog London. Doskow holds a BA from New York University’s Gallatin School and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts. She is the subject of the 2021 documentary Jade Doskow: Photographer of Lost Utopias; the film has screened internationally at film festivals and at cultural institutions such as the Asheville Art Museum and the International Center of Photography. Doskow’s photographs have been featured in The New York Times, VQR, Urban Omnibus/ Architectural League of New York, Aperture, Photograph, Architect, Wired, Musée Mag, Smithsonian, Slate, and Newsweek Japan. Doskow is on the faculty of the School of Visual Arts and the International Center of Photography, both in New York. Recent and current exhibitions include at the Museum of Modern Art, Asheville Art Museum, Alice Austen House, Tracey Morgan Gallery, and Cornell University. Doskow is a contributing environmental photojournalist to the New York Times and is the Photographer-in-Residence of Freshkills Park, New York City.
