AUGUSTA — Brooklyn, N.Y. and Venice, Italy-based artist Anne Mourier will be on UMA’s Augusta campus from Tuesday through Friday, Jan. 23-26, performing in her exhibition, “While we still ask ourselves how to speak to each other,” and meeting with students in UMA’s classes.
Mourier’s exhibition and performances are titled after a quote from the Feminist philosopher Luce Irigaray, and examine the Feminine as it is associated with practices, qualities, and visualities that Western societies tend to devalue and even suppress, and what the implications of that value system are more broadly. Mourier, whose work often centers domestic labor frequently associated with women, and uses craft techniques long undervalued in Western art history builds “While we still ask ourselves how to speak to each other” into a collaborative site of re-thinking and re-valuation in an associative field of artworks, performance, and texts.
