Composting can be a sustainable way to reduce organics from the waste stream while creating a product that promotes healthy soils and plant growth. This presentation will focus on composting basics including the biology of compost piles, basic compost pile construction, composting systems for the home and garden, and compost utilization. Nick Rowley is a Sustainable Agriculture and Horticulture Professional with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Franklin County. Nick's work focuses on production and soil health in vegetable and forage production systems. Additionally, Nick works statewide on composting and is a member of the Maine Compost Team which offers the Maine Compost School.
Classes are free, but space is limited. Call 626-2415 and ask for the Reference Desk to register.
