WHO WE ARE

CRUX Climbing is dedicated to expanding access to the sport of rock climbing and outdoor recreation for LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual) communities in the NY-metropolitan area.

TRIP OVERVIEW

If you are looking for the best sport lead climbing in New England, you will find nothing better than Rumney. Considered one of the premier sport climbing destinations in the country, people from around the world flock to New Hampshire to experience all that Rumney has to offer. So grab your rope and quick draws (or, preferably, your friends’ gear) and join us for a beautiful weekend of sends!

THE CRAG

Rumney’s schist rock provides all sorts of styles and features to climb from Clip a Dee Doo Dah (5.3) to Jaws II (5.15a). You’ll never run out of projects here! Approaches range from less than 5 minutes to half an hour, so make sure to have a plan before you get to the parking lot.

WHAT TO BRING

Sport lead climbing requires a lot more gear than your typical top rope. In addition to a helmet, a harness, and rock shoes, you’ll need a personal anchor, a rope, quick draws, carabiners, slings, cordelette… The list goes on! If this is your first time leading outdoors, don’t hesitate to ask for help while getting ready. We'll have a shared spreadsheet leading up to the trip to make sure we have enough ropes and other gear to share.

Helmets are required at all CRUX outdoor trips.

WHO CAN ATTEND

This is primarily a sport lead climbing trip. For this reason, it is important that you already know how to lead climb and lead belay prior to this event.

TRANSPORTATION & ACCOMMODATION

You will receive a link to the group spreadsheet within 48 hours of registering for the event. This tool will help us all coordinate who's bringing what gear, who is carpooling in whose vehicle, and where everyone is staying. It is your responsibility to make your own reservations for camping or staying at a hostel. This guide may be helpful!

COST

There is no fee to join us on this trip! You are responsible for the cost of transportation and accommodation. There is also a $5 per car per day fee to park at the White Mountain National Forest where the Rumney crag is located.
