FORMAT

• Hybrid (remote) modality (asynchronous online with weekly synchronous Zoom meetings)
• Workshop runs between Monday, October 14, 2024 to Friday, November 8, 2024.
• Begins asynchronous online on Monday, October 14, after 9 AM (flexible hours, approx. 1-2 hours prep before first Zoom meeting)
• Meets on Zoom on Fridays, October 18, October 25, November 1, and November 8, from 9am to 12pm.
• Ends asynchronous online on Friday, November 8, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.
• Final workshop deliverables must be submitted online by 11:59 PM, November 8, 2024.
• Includes one individually scheduled 1:1 meeting with Instrunctional Design facilitator to review final workshop deliverables

ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP

This workshop will provide best practices founded on research about how the mix of synchronous/asynchronous learning has been used successfully in higher education around the nation. Teaching that combines synchronous and asynchronous learning is so versatile that there is potential for confusion among faculty course designers and student participants. Seemingly an in-between environment of face-to-face (or remote) and fully online, these course types are actually both fully online and face-to-face and require special design considerations to results in a successful learning experience.

This workshop will build on the foundation of online course development (eL201) and incorporate a blending of instruction, learning activities, and assessment tools that take full advantage of both the online and face-to-face/Zoom learning modalities. Participants will complete the workshop with a solid course structure, a plan for continued online and incorporated face-to-face/Zoom design and development, and advanced Canvas development strategies that utilize best practices in uses of instructional technologies.

This course will be facilitated using a hybrid format, meeting in person (via Zoom) on four separate days as well as require online participation before, during, and after the synchronous sessions. This facilitation is intended to model this synchronous/asynchronous teaching practice and course design.
